Information On Varicose Veins

Some people have weak venous valves, in these cases gravity forces large quantities of blood back down into distal parts of the vein. This pressure overloads the vein and pushes its wall outward. After repeated overloading, the walls lose their elasticity and become stretched and slack. Such enlarged and convoluted veins, caused by incompetent valves, are called as varicose veins.

Varicose veins are enlarged veins that are swollen and raised above the surface of the skin. They can be dark purple or blue, and look twisted and bulging. Varicose veins are commonly found on the backs of the calves or on the inside of the leg. They develop when valves in the veins that allow blood to flow toward the heart stop working properly. As a result, blood pools in the veins and causes them to get larger.

Varicose veins are gnarled, enlarged veins. The word “varicose” comes from the Latin root “varix,” which means “twisted.” Any vein may become varicose, but the veins most commonly affected are those in your legs and feet. That’s because standing and walking upright increases the pressure in the veins in your lower body.

If you’re suffering with varicose veins, spider veins or any other venous disorder, you know how these problems can hurt – physically and emotionally. So you’ll be glad to know that modern technology makes it easier than ever to resolve them.

Veins are blood vessels that return deoxygenated blood from the outer parts of the body back to the heart and lungs. When veins become abnormally thick, full of twists and turns, or enlarged, they are called varicose veins. Generally, the veins in the legs and thighs have a tendency to become varicosed.

Approximately 25 percent of women and 15 percent of men in the United States have varicose veins. The condition is usually the result of problems with valves within the veins of the leg. When one or more of the valves fails to close properly, the veins conduct blood back into the leg instead of up to the heart. As blood accumulates, abnormal pressures dilate the superficial vein system, causing the veins to bulge and become visible.

Read more Varicose Vein articles here

In normal veins, valves in the vein keep blood moving forward toward the heart. With varicose veins, the valves do not function properly, allowing blood to remain in the vein. Pooling of blood in a vein causes it to enlarge. This process usually occurs in the veins of the legs, although it may occur elsewhere. Varicose veins are common, affecting mostly women.

Veins can become buldge with pools of blood when they fail to circulate the blood properly. These visible and bulging veins, called varicose veins, are often associated with symptoms such as tired, heavy, or aching limbs. In severe cases, varicose veins can rupture, or open sores (called “ulcers”) can form on the skin. Varicose veins are most common in the legs and thighs.

When you are in the upright position, the blood in your leg veins must work against gravity to return to your heart. To accomplish this, your leg muscles squeeze the deep veins of your legs and feet. One-way flaps, called valves, in your veins keep blood flowing in the right direction. When your leg muscles contract, the valves inside your veins open. When your legs relax, the valves close. This prevents blood from flowing in reverse, back down the legs. The entire process of sending blood back to the heart is called the venous pump.

8 Ways To Treat Varicose Veins With Non-Medical Methods

If you are worried about having your varicose veins removed by surgery, fear not because there are many non-medical and natural remedies for treating varicose veins now available. As the world moves toward looking for healthier and more natural choices when it comes to our bodies, doctors and researchers continue to find more ways to offer natural and non-medical treatment for various ailments.

However, non medical treatments are more effective for milder cases of varicose veins. Some of these treatments are:

1) Acupuncture and Acupressure

2) Aromatherapy

3) Hydrotherapy

<!--
google_ad_client = "pub-8096163373271288";

4) Compression Stockings

5) Massage

6) Exercise

7) Healthy Diet

 Vitamins

These methods also work very well in preventing varicose veins.

Acupuncture and Acupressure

They are effective, but only for the appearance of the veins. Both these procedures will help to keep the veins from worsening, but unfortunately cannot help them to disappear completely.

Aromatherapy

This is an excellent choice amongst the natural treatment for varicose veins, as the oils can help with the swelling that may occur with varicose veins. Massaging the area around the veins with certain oils, can help reduce the size of the veins as well as reduce swelling.

Read more Varicose Vein articles here

Hydrotherapy

Alternating between hot and cold baths can help with the blood circulation. This is another one of the best natural remedies for varicose veins as damaged veins are normally associated with bad circulation. It is generally easy to do this treatment at home.

Compression Stockings

For a person suffering from varicose veins temporarily, such as while pregnant, compression can be used as a non medical treatment . This might also be true for someone that is mildly affected with varicose veins.

For people who are suffering with a more severe case of varicose veins, compression stockings can be prescribed by their doctors. These stockings can often be purchased at a medical supply store or at a full service pharmacy. The compression stockings for varicose vein treatment range in price from about $50 to $100, depending on the size and style.

These stockings tighten the most at the ankle, and gradually deliver less pressure as it stretches over the knee and towards the thigh. This results in forcing of blood along its natural course despite the damage to the veins. These stockings are not everlasting however, and even the prescription stockings will need to be replaced after a few months of regular use.

Massage

There are several different massage techniques to treat varicose veins. Massage works very well because it makes your skin tender and thus prevent you from getting varicose veins.

Even if you already have varicose veins, the massage can still work wonders for you. It can help to get rid of varicose veins that are already on your skin if you suffer from mild varicose veins.

Exercise

The most important part of non medical treatment for varicose veins is exercise. In fact it is a vital part of maintaining a healthy and balanced body. Exercise gets the blood flowing normally which helps greatly with blood circulation. Besides aerobic exercise, yoga has also been noted as another important aspect of exercise which can be used to treat varicose veins.

Healthy Diet

As with anything that is health related diet plays a big part in treating varicose veins. Make sure that you include plenty of fiber, vitamins A, B, C and E, as well as zinc in your diet. These are just some of the elements that will help you in treating varicose veins.

By maintaining a healthy lifestyle, you can also prevent varicose veins from occurring in the first place. Always make sure that you maintain a healthy diet which will promote general health and wellbeing for your whole body.

Vitamins

Vitamins are important elements in preventing and treating varicose veins. They are more effective when used in addition to other treatments such as compression stockings. Although natural supplements are not often known to have ill effects, especially those available for mass distribution, some have been found to interact badly with other medications. So, if you do decide to have surgery after all, for your varicose veins, you need to let your doctor know about any supplements that you are currently taking.

The most important varicose vein vitamins you should take regularly to treat varicose veins are A, C, E, B6, and K. In addition, you should also take bioflavoniods and fiber as they are also important for your overall health.

More About Varicose Veins Treatment Centers

Before making any appointments you might want to first locate all the varicose veins treatment centers that are as nearby to you as possible. This way, when you start having your appointments there, you will be able to get to it easily, rather than having to go out of your way just to get yourself to an appointment.

Once you determine some centers that would be convenient for you to go, make an appointment with each of them so you can familiarize yourself with the different people that work there. This will help you later on as you will need to go to a quite a few appointments to the centre of your choice once you start to undergo treatment.

Remember to take your time and be patient when choosing a center for yourself, so that you will be able to come up with the best possible results. This will help you feel satisfied in the end.

If you want to find out more about what centers are open in your specific area, you might want to go to your own family doctor, as he will be able to give you the names of some really great doctors who specialize in varicose veins treatment in your area. You can also take a look through your yellow pages or on the Internet for a treatment facility in your area.

Another place to go is VeinsOnline.Com. This site for varicose vein clinics will give you information about varicose veins treatment centers from around the world. All the information is available to you at the click of a mouse. From this website, you can find all the information you need about the various clinics locations.
Also remember that just because your doctor may have recommended a doctor to you that do not mean that you have to go with him. You may want to do a bit of research yourself and ask families and friends for recommendation, or you may want to make an appointment with the doctor and see if you will be comfortable seeing him for your treatment.

If you do this you will be able to make the process much easier, and you will be able to decide whether or not this doctor is right for you. Always remember to not be afraid when it comes to asking questions, because a good doctor will understand and be more than willing and able to answer any questions that you have. You may want to bring a list of the questions you want to ask your doctor, as sometimes when you are nervous about your condition you may tend to forget the important questions you want to ask.
