My wife is 33 years old and is going to have weight loss surgury. We have no kids but would like to have some. Is it going to be ok for her to get pregnet and will there be any effects for the baby?

i find it distressing that so little information about the psychology of a post-bariatric patient (from surgery date to 5-10 years afterward) be documented, or written about.

as the wife of a husband who underwent the procedure over two years ago, i feel as if i've created a monster. i introduced the roux en y to him and held his hand through months of pre and post op, therapy, and everything else only to be told a year and a half later that he no longer wanted to be married to me. his new found appreciation for his body (thanks to me) is the #1 reason we're heading towards divorce. his newfound sexual prowess is causing him to be unfaithful, and along with a midlife crisis toboot, i have no idea who this man is. i'm grateful he's healthier, but it has completely toxified our marriage and future. somebody REALLY needs to take a closer look at this.

I had a bypass a little over two years ago. I have obtained my goal of loosing over 170 pounds and successfully have kept it off. I have no problems in that department. I still feel very tired all the time. I take my vitamins faithfully and still feel tired. I am actually thinking about having it reversed. I have muscle weakness in my back that requires medication now on a daily basis for no apparent reason, but only showed up after surgery.
People need to think about more than just weight loss when they consider this surgery. Yes you do lose the weight. What they don't tell you is you have to do exactly what you need to do before you have the surgery afterwards, which is, eat better, watch your calories. Yes I have learned what to eat now and what not to, but unfortunately now I have the opposite problem. I can't keep enough down not to continue to lose. Now eating has become a chore I do not look forward to. All because I couldn't control my eating habits. Well now I have to anyway, but I have extreme limitations on what I can do on a daily basis because you have to constantly think about what you have to eat and how much protein it has in it. I don't recommend bypass surgery. I only wish I knew then what a knew now. Yeah its great going from a size 26 on the day of surgery down to a size 10, but look at the end results. Never feeling great but looking great or not looking great but feeling a lot better??? You decide. Not for me.
